Pakistan to lift ban on YouTube

Islamabad, Nov 16 (IANS) Pakistan which had banned popular video−sharing website YouTube following the release of a film that allegedly insulted Islam, will lift the ban next month, an official said.

Farooq Awan, chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) said the website may be reopened within 20 days, the Dawn reported Friday.

Awan said talks were underway with Google, the company that owns YouTube, to block the "blasphemous contents" of the anti−Islam film.

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf had ordered the ban on the website in September, in the aftermath of protests against the film.
