Washington, Dec 7 (IANS/EFE) General Motors Co. said Thursday that it sold 2.59 million vehicles in China in the first 11 months of 2012, topping last year's record 12-month total of 2.55 million units.

November sales were up 9.7 percent over the previous year, GM, the largest foreign automaker in China, said in a statement posted on the company's web site.

GM sold 10.4 percent more units in China in January-November than in the same period of 2011.

The giant automaker's Shanghai GM unit delivered a record 136,444 units last month, marking a 20.6 percent jump from the level of November 2011.

SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile Co., which produces small commercial vehicles, saw sales decline 0.5 percent from November 2011, while FAW-GM Light Commercial Vehicle Co. posted a 4.2 percent gain in sales.

GM said sales of its Buick line in China climbed 17 percent last month.

The company's Baojun brand, produced only for the Chinese market, enjoyed a whopping 70 percent increase in sales compared with November 2011.
