Russia to cooperate with Iran in train projects

Tehran, Dec 12 (IANS) Russian companies would cooperate with Iranian firms in electric train projects, Xinhua reported Tuesday.

According to Abbas Nazari, director general for investment and international affairs of Iran's railway company, the two countries' railway companies are discussing plans to cooperate in electrifying Garmsar-Gorgan and Tehran-Mashhad railway lines in northern and northeastern Iran.

Iranian and Russian officials were due to discuss the two countries' cooperation in building a railway line which would connect Qazvin, Rasht and Astara cities in northern and northwestern Iran as well, he said.

The first joint Iran-Russia electric train project of Tabriz-Azarshahr railway line in northwestern Iran was inaugurated in October.
